Only if the third hokage actually did his job of protecting his people a lot of this could have been avoided. From..I won't spoil it, but it was under him that the masked madara was made(will show in the coming episodes).
It was under him that Orochimaru did all those things and he, the man didn't do anything but also let him escape even when he was caught red handed...
The Third hokage was naive and couldn't control Danzo, his evil subordinate who, literally everyone knew was an evil man.... I mean what the heck? I have watched naruto as a kid, so I didn't understand it back then, but it's clear now, that all of it started because of Hiruzen Sarutobi's weakness, inability to commad righteousness and indecisiveness... even during Naruto's birth.. what did he do? Sent some couple of men and 2 women with the tensed already worried gonna be father Minato? Tell me why did he even think that would make a difference? No doubt Minato was strong but its foolish to guard the potentially GREATEST THREAT AND WEAPON OF MASSIVE POWER with just that much..
And even the Uchiha clan murder? Was it necessary? Absolutely NOT! Danzo made itachi even kill kids and women and Sarutobi watched.... I say, if only the third was not chosen as sarutobi but as someone else, a lot would not have happened... I mean the Second hokage was in a dilemma, Saurobi or Danzo. And knowing them, he choose the comparatively better one, but he failed to understand how useless sarutobi would become and let Danzo do all the things that he'd do even if he were to have become the hokage..l
